Flow Cytometry Core Facility Charterhouse Square

Overview of Services

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility's aim is to provide a high quality professional service related to flow cytometric techniques using cutting edge equipment. To achieve this goal, we encourage interaction between users and lab members of the core facility.

We are open to QMUL and external users offering the following services on a fee-for-service basis. Support and training is provided for the use of all analysers. In addition, help is provided in experiment and panel design, data interpretation, presentation and troubleshooting.

This Flow Cytometry Facility is equipped with the following flow cytometers:

  • x3 BD Biosciences LSR Fortessa (3-4 laser system)
  • x1 BD Biosciences FACSymphony A3 (5 laser system)
  • x1 Cytek Aurora (4 laser system)
  • x1 Thermo Fisher Attune NXT (3 laser system)
  • x1 Cytek ImageStream X Mark II (3 laser system)
  • x2 Cell sorters (BD Biosciences FACSAriaII/Fusion)
  • x2 Mass Cytometer Standard Biotools (Helios/CyTOF2)
  • x1 Standard Biotools Hyperion Imaging Mass Cytometer

Cell sorters and mass cytometers are a staff-operated service and can be requested by emailing "flowcytometry@qmul.ac.uk".

Users who complete the Basic Training may book the self-service flow cytometers. Special training for other platforms (Aurora and ImageStream) is available and must be completed before use. Please contact the Flow Team on "flowcytometry@qmul.ac.uk" for training or any other requests.

External users can access the facility during regular working hours (Mon-Fri, 09:00-17:00), while trained internal users normally have 24/7 access.

DATA ANALYSIS

Various analysis software are available to our trained users and can be booked on our Data Analysis workstation. Access to these resources can be requested via the facility email (flowcytometry@qmul.ac.uk).

  • x2 FlowJo Dongle (to use on personal devices or analysis workstation PC
  • X1 OMIQ license software for high dimensional data analysis
  • IDEAS software (ImageStream Analysis)
  • SpectroFlow Software (Aurora data analysis)

DATA DELETION:

  • Please ensure you back up all your data after EVERY experiment. This is the user’s responsibility.
  • On the 1st day or 1st Monday of the month DATA DELETION is carried out automatically without further notice.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Please ensure that you acknowledge the BCI Flow Cytometry Facility in any publications or presentations that include work carried out in the facility. This is vital to ensure continued funding for the facility, as the cost recovery model in place only partly covers total running costs.

  • The flowcytometry core is funded by CRUK.
  • Please Acknowledge the CRUK FLOW CYTOMETRY CORE SERVICE GRANT at Barts Cancer Institute (Core Award  C16420/A18066) in ALL presentations and publications.
  • The ImageStream has been funded by THE WELLCOME TRUST. Please Acknowledge THE WELLCOME TRUST in your publications and presentations Grant:101604/Z/13/Z

A brief sentence in the acknowledgement section of a paper is sufficient:

  • This research was supported by the BCI Flow Cytometry Facility “CRUK FLOW CYTOMETRY CORE SERVICE GRANT at Barts Cancer Institute (Core Award C16420/A18066)”.
  • This research was supported by the BCI Flow Cytometry Facility “THE WELLCOME TRUST Grant:101604/Z/13/Z”
  • You may also wish to acknowledge an individual member of staff (delete as appropriate): In particular, we thank [name] for their advice and support in flow cytometry/cell sorting/CyTOF/ImageStream/Attune Nxt/Fortessa/Symphony A3/Cytek Aurora

Thank you in advance for your support.
